Background
Bradley S. Bender, M.D., is Staff Physician and Chief, Infectious Diseases of the GRECC. He has been on the GRECC staff since 1986. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine with a joint appointment in the Department of Immunology and Medical Microbiology.
Dr. Bender was graduated from Middlebury College and received his M.D. from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He did his internal medicine residency at Baltimore City Hospitals, followed by fellowships in Infectious Diseases at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Clinical Immunology at the National Institute on Aging.
He is married with three children and coaches Babe Ruth League baseball.
Research Focus
Dr. Bender's major research interest is in the host defense against infections with a special emphasis on the effect of aging on the response to influenza infection. He is also involved in the development and testing of influenza vaccines. He is funded by a VA Merit Review grant and several pharmaceutical companies.
