Prescribing Controlled Substances

All physicians who are registered with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and authorized to prescribe controlled substances are required to complete a board approved 2-hour course on prescribing controlled substances in order to renew their Florida medical license.

DEA Opioid Education Requirement

All Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)-registered practitioners will be required to attest that they have met an eight-hour training requirement on treating and managing patients with opioid and other substance use disorders before they obtain a new DEA license or renew their current DEA license. This is a one-time education requirement for renewals after June 27, 2023.
